The tides have turned: Fit, modesty matters most when choosing a suit now
by Geneva White

For women who carry more weight on the top half of their bodies, finding suits that offer both support and a decent overall fit can be challenging.

“Traditionally, you have to buy [swimwear] so big in order to get the coverage you need,” said Sonja Das, founder of Hour Shape Apparel in Lake in the Hills. “If you’re buying it two or three sizes bigger, the back of your swimsuit’s going to ride up.”

Das, whose business offers clothing selections for women with larger bust lines, suggests purchasing halter top-style suits.

“The halter style usually has more fabric to where it’s going to cover more,” Das said. “I think it balances nicely too with your shoulders. You’re always safe if you go with a halter top.

Das said many of the vintage-style suits that boast the glam of old Hollywood also are in fashion and look great on curvy women.

“The vintage suit look is really big right now,” she said.

New Apparel Line Dresses Women with a Fuller Bust

Market research shows that up to 30% of women have a difficult time finding clothing that appropriately fits around their ample bosom and hourglass proportions. Now there’s a company “dressing” the problem.

New apparel line, Hour Shape, offers a tailored fit for women with a fuller bust-line. Founder Sonja Das, of Lake in the Hills, shares a frustration with many women whom she meets regularly. “I’m so limited in what I can wear--shirts are either too revealing at my chest or too baggy at my waist—I can’t find the right fit.” Hour Shape women are not big all over, just through the bust-line. Specifically they have an average 10-inch difference from their bust-line to their waistline—an hourglass proportion.

This Spring the company will offer 3 flattering garments: a button-down shirt, wrap-around shirt and a sun dress in sizes 6-16. A fashion show will launch the line on May 3rd at the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake, benefiting Home of the Sparrow of McHenry County. Additional information on the new company and fashion show can be found at www.HourShape.com.

Women Helping Women in McHenry County
Fashion Show and Business Expo to benefit Home of the Sparrow

On May 3rd at the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake, local women-owned businesses will gather for a fashion show presented by Hour Shape in order to help raise awareness for Home of the Sparrow women’s shelter.

From the start, Hour Shape apparel, based in Lake in the Hills and owned by Lake in the Hills resident Sonja Das, has focused on helping women. The clothing brand provides tailored apparel for women sizes 6-16 who have a fuller bust-line and an ‘hourglass’ shape. In the past these women had to settle for ill-fitting clothing.

“I never dreamed that this fashion show would create such tremendous support. It’s really a great thing for women in McHenry County,” said Das, Hour Shape founder.

The event will reach out to women on different levels, such as in the areas of image consulting, business networking, personal health, and attitude development, all the while benefiting women sheltered by Home of the Sparrow. Ten percent of proceeds will be donated to the shelter. Dolce Day Spa of Cary, Sylver Studio Photography of Crystal Lake and Midwest Plastic Surgery Specialists of Algonquin are only a few of many businesses reaching out. If you are interested in attending, please visit www.HourShape.com.
